Sister Esther (John Bosco) Szambelan

What first drew you to the Racine Dominican community?
I had Dominican Sisters as teachers all through grade school and high school. They were my role models. As a high school senior, I was invited to join the sisters.

What has kept you in the community all these years?
Commitment to live, love and learn.

What is one particularly cherished memory of your years in ministry?
Gregorian chant in the 1950s. I taught, sang, and transcribed all the music for Sundays and major feasts from Gregorian to modern notation with accompaniment.

What is one thing people today should know about the Racine Dominicans?
The sisters play a major role in education and hospitality in the city of Racine.

What do you enjoy doing at this time of your life?
Reading.
