Sister Chris Makes First Profession

On Sunday, October 5, 2008, the Sisters of St. Dominic, Congregation of St. Catherine of Siena, Racine, WI, celebrated the First Profession of Sister Chris Broslavick. First profession is a three-year commitment; it may be followed by another three years before final profession, a lasting commitment. In the Dominican tradition, one single vow of obedience encompasses the commitment to all that is expressed in the congregation's constitution, embraced for the sake of the mission.

S. Sharon Simon, president of the Racine Dominicans, received Chris' vow in the name of the congregation and the church. The community responded with a promise to accompany S. Chris through the witness of their own lives and with prayers, love and support.

S. Chris received the community ring which bears a tree whose roots are sunk into earth (for we are of the earth and are committed to caring for the earth) and water (our commitment is primarily and centrally a Christian commitment stemming from our baptism), its branches thrust toward the light (our roots reach into the earth and water only that the tree may grow higher into the light which is God).

S. Chris was born in Iron River, Michigan and worked as a teacher, principal and an education consultant with the Diocese of Green Bay.  In October of 2005 she began her time  of candidacy with the Racine Dominican Sisters. S. Chris is the director of the Sponsored Ministries of the Racine Dominicans.
