Mary Anne Albert, SSSF, is a member of the School Sisters of St. Francis. She has a background in science education and master’s degree in pastoral studies from Loyola. Mary Anne received training is spiritual direction at the Institute for Spiritual Leadership in Chicago. For many years she has directed retreats and offered spiritual direction, and currently ministers in Casco, Wisconsin. She believes that creativity, scripture, daily living, and nature provide avenues for walking through life with better understanding and acceptance.

 

Linda Angel is a psychotherapist at Family Service of Racine, whose training includes geriatric issues.

 

Nancy Bauer-King is a retired United Methodist pastor who has serviced Wisconsin parishes for over 20 years. 

 

Paulette Berggren holds a master’s degree in educational psychology and counseling. She has been an adjunct professor at Lakeland College in Milwaukee for 14 years, teaching a variety of humanities, writing, religion, ethics, and education courses. She has taught at Carthage College and UW-Parkside, and given a variety of workshops. Paulette loves being a grandmother and enjoys travel, writing, reading, films, and music.

   

Kathleen Bohn, OP a  Racine Dominican, is a staff member of the Racine Dominican Retreat Program. She is a spiritual guide, retreat leader, labyrinth facilitator, weaver, and is deeply committed to Earth. Kathleen has an MA in counseling, is certified in spiritual direction, has taken the labyrinth facilitator training, and has done work in Jungian psychology and dreamwork. She helped initiate and lives at the Racine Dominican Eco-Justice Center.

 

Miriam Brown, OP,  is a Sinsinawa Dominican and member of the retreat staff at Siena Center where she is a spiritual guide, retreat facilitator, teacher in Theology by the Lake, and team member of the Spiritual Guidance Training Program. She brings an eye for the Spirit’s movement in the world, a sense of spiritual freedom, and joy in God’s ever-newness in the changes of our lives. She co-authored Sustaining Heart in the Heartland.

 

Pat Chaffee, OP, has a Ph.D. in English, and has taught in college and university. She has published poems in the Arkansas Review, Review for Religious, National Catholic Reporter, and online poetry magazines.

 

Judy Chiodo, OSF, has a master’s in family therapy, is a certified chemical dependency counselor and certified spiritual director. She believes in the importance of people awakening to the Light of their own true nature. Judy  draws from 12-Step spirituality and her Franciscan spirituality.

 

Judith Christopher is an ordained United Methodist minister. She has a profound interest in the healing and wholeness of all living beings, the earth and all creation.  She is an herbalist who honors and studies not only those herbs we plant, but also those we call weeds.  Judith has been a spiritual companion for many years.  She also writes, teaches, leads retreats and workshops.

 

Dan Crosby, OFM Cap, is a member of the Capuchin Franciscan Province of St. Joseph. Ordained in 1964, his life has been enriched by a variety of ministries and cultures, from college campus ministry and teaching to pastoring inner city and reservation parishes. Wherever he has ministered, Dan has worked to integrate scripture as well as the Franciscan vision into his life and preaching. He is Director of St. Anthony Retreat Center in Marathon, Wisconsin. He has been a spiritual director and well-received retreat master throughout the country for his entire priestly life.

  

Michael Crosby, OFM Cap, is a Capuchin Franciscan who lives with other friars in a downtown Milwaukee parish that serves the urban poor, homeless and marginated. His ministry includes proclaiming the gospel of God’s Trinitarian reign and to bring about equality—specifically corporate reform through socially responsible investing, and church reform. Michael’s preaching and writing on contemporary biblical discipleship has taken him around the world, giving retreats, workshops and parish missions. 

   

Paula D'Arcy is a well-known author and retreat leader throughout the US and abroad. In 2001 she established the Red Bird Foundation, which ministers to prisoners, women in need, and persons in the healing process. The foundation has sponsored  both WOMENSPEAK 2007 and WOMENSPEAK 2010, two  gatherings to honor the unspoken wisdom in a woman’s heart. Paula is a former psychotherapist who, while pregnant in 1975, survived the loss of her husband and young daughter in a car accident.

 

Rose Marie Dischler, OP, has recently completed the two-year Spiritual Guidance Program offered at the Siena Retreat Center. Before moving to the Eco-Justice Center in Racine in 2007, she worked at St. Joseph Parish in  Baraboo, Wisconsin as Religious Formation Director and Pastoral Minister. She has her MA in pastoral studies from IPS, Chicago.

   

Carol Elsholz, EdD, is an experienced teacher of students of all ages. She especially enjoys teaching techniques that encourage reflective reading and creative writing. Carol loves gardening, cooking, walking along the lake, striving for peace with justice, and contemplative prayer.

  

Edwina Gateley founded the Volunteer Missionary Movement in England to recruit, prepare and send missionaries to work in countries of the developing world. She is the founder of Genesis House in Chicago, a house of hospitality and nurturing for women in prostitution. Edwina is widely published and has received numerous awards, such as The Oscar Romero Award, and Catholic Woman of the Year: England and Wales.

 

Sharon Gray , SCN, is a Sister of Charity of Nazareth, Kentucky.  She holds an MA in theology and a doctorate in music.  Sharon is on staff at Siena Center’s Spiritual Guidance Training Program.  She has extensive experience as a spiritual guide, teacher and retreat leader. 

 

Claudia Greco has studied Buddhism for 16 years and is an oblate in association with Holy Wisdom Monastery in Madison, Wisconsin. Claudia completed training in spiritual guidance at Siena Center and is certified as a Level I Lifeforce Yoga Practitioner. 

 

Terence Gunville, MS, MTS, is a psychotherapist working with families and individuals.  He also has served as Director of Adult Christian Formation in several parishes.  Blending master’s degrees in clinical psychology and theology, he has facilitated retreats and worked in Adult Initiation ministry (RCIA) for over 25 years.  Terry and his wife have two children who daily evoke a sense of wonder and awe.   
  

Byron Haaland, SCJ, has a bachelor's in fine arts and a master's of divinity, with 30 years' experience in spiritual guidance. His areas of focus include spirituality of the heart; creation spirituality; a playful approach to scripture; people with HIV/AIDS; 12-Step recovery; and adult children of alcoholic or dysfunctional families.

  

Jean Hinderer, CSA, is a member of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes. She has an MA in pastoral studies from Loyola. Her spiritual direction preparation is from the Franciscan Spirituality Center in LaCrosse. Jean has worked in education, formation ministry and is presently involved with vocation discernment at Marian University and through her community. She has been a spiritual guide and retreat director for a number of years and believes that through the scriptures, and with the use of imagination and creativity, one becomes aware of God as Divine Mystery and unconditional love. 

 

Paula Hirschboeck, PhD, is Professor of Philosophy at Edgewood College, Madison WI., Co-Director of Wisdom’s Well Interfaith Spirituality Center, a Zen Buddhist Chaplain and a spiritual director.  She has given a variety of retreats and programs on the divine feminine, women’s spirituality and interfaith spiritual practice, particularly Zen and Christian mysticism.

 

Lynda Jackson  holds a master’s degree in social work. She is the executive director of Bethany Apartments, a transitional housing program for victims of domestic abuse.  Lynda‘s professional career of over 20 years has been dedicated to helping individuals and families.  She is a wife and mother and enjoys spending time with her grandchildren.

 

Bruce Joffe, PhD, communications professor, has taught no-nonsense public relations, media, marketing, and gender studies courses at The American University, George Mason University, and Mary Baldwin College.  Since moving to Racine in 2008, he's served on the faculties of Carthage College and Cardinal Stritch University.  Formerly Director of Development at SAFE Haven of Racine and now Executive Director of the LGBT Center of SE Wisconsin, Joffe seeks to practice what he preaches.

  

Mary Therese Johnson, OP, is a Dominican sister who lives and ministers in the Chicago area.  "Mary T" is engaged in spiritual companioning, retreat and group facilitation, as well as creating resources for vocation awareness and discernment. She sees all of life as sacred. With the Holy Spirit she welcomes those seeking a deeper spiritual life. She believes every person has the inner wisdom needed for this sacred quest. Through listening, encouraging and gently challenging the seeker, she assists in nurturing life's blessings. 

 

Mary Jo Joyce  is the founder and president of Practical Strategies, Inc, a public policy firm with offices in the District of Columbia and Wisconsin; and co-founder of Americans for Community and Faith Centered Enterprise, a Washington based lobbying organization. She has provided strategic planning and design to profit and non-profit ventures for over 20 years, and as a consultant conducted research on education, immigration, economics, social service delivery, land conservation. The last five years, she has been active in efforts to combat human trafficking through Rescue & Restore, a program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. She has been published and quoted widely.

 

John Kidd   is a Program Manager with Focus on Community. He has worked with homeless men for the past three years at HALO and ten years at Homeward Bound on AODA issues, group facilitation and individual sessions. John also works in school programs, such as FAST (Family and Schools Together) and Life Skills. He is a trained facilitator of Nurturing Fathers, and is Vice President of the ADAM (Alliance for Alcohol and Drug Management) Group.

   

Rita Lui, OP, now into her 20th year as director of the retreat program at Siena Center, is a Racine Dominican and trained spiritual guide. Rita holds an MA in Sacred Studies and has a background in teaching, administration and parish work. Her homemade currant and grape jellies are available in the bookstore, testimony to her love for her garden and for cooking. 

 

Joseph Marco is a Racine Dominican Associate and Chaplain/Coordinator of Roman Catholic Ministries at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. He has worked with watercolor and oil mediums for over 25 years. Joseph was commissioned and completed the "Into the Light" mural for Holy Family Memorial Hospital in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. He has restored statues and artifacts for many churches in Wisconsin and Illinois.

   

Maureen McDonnell, OP, is a Sinsinawa Dominican, who just retired from campus ministry at Edgewood College in Madison, Wisconsin. She completed her spiritual guidance training at Siena Center in 2006 and has been ministering as a guide since then. Earlier in 2006, she and two others began Wisdom’s Well Interfaith Spirituality Center to promote adult spiritual growth. She is a member of Spiritual Directors International.

 

Colleen McGeady-Ambrose is a spiritual director on staff at the Claret Center in Chicago, and facilitates retreats and workshops. Her spiritual guidance training is from the Institute of Spiritual Companioning in Wilmette, Illinois and from the Claret Center. Her theological training comes from the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. In addition, Colleen holds a Master of Management degree, and is a wife and mother. 

 

Mary Michna, OP, a Racine Dominican, holds an M.A. in Scripture and Theology, an M.A. in Administration and Guidance, and has taught scripture and theology. She has also ministered as a certified spiritual guide for twenty years. Mary is certified to lead individuals through the Exercises of St. Ignatius, done over 30 weeks during normal life at one’s home.

 

Michael Morwood is an author and  former priest with more than 30 years in adult faith formation. He challenges adult Christians to reimagine their understanding of God from "elsewhere" to "everywhere." He seeks to enable contemporary Christians to understand their faith in a new way that respects teh secular world-view and also believe in Christ, ourselves and our place in the universe.

 

Michael Mueller is co-pastor of St. Andrew Lutheran Church in Racine. His pursuit of the contemplative path has been shaped by the Benedictines of St. Ottilien near Munich, Germany, and Blue Cloud Abbey in South Dakota. He has completed the residency for the Clergy Spiritual Life and Leadership Program of the Shalem Institute and has been practicing centering prayer since attending an Intensive Retreat in 2002.  

 

 Andrew Nelson is a Catholic priest with a License in Sacred Theology from the Gregorian University in Rome. He earned his Doctorate in Religious Studies, taught at the college level, and was Dean of the Archdiocesan seminary. He has served as chaplain at various institutions, as a pastor, and recently retired as rector. Author of various articles, he writes a monthly commentary on the Sunday readings for the Milwaukee Archdiocesan Catholic Herald. Fr. Nelson writes and lectures on moral and ethical issues and on the ministry of preaching. He remains involved in parish work, primarily at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

 

John Nichols  is associate editor of the Madison Capital Times and political writer for Nation Magazine. He is frequently on programs like “CNN Presents” and “Bill Moyers Journal,” and is a monthly political analyst on Wisconsin Public Radio.  He is a best-selling author on executive excess, democracy, and concerns for the Constitution. He is an articulate man of conscience in our complex times. He returns to Siena out of generosity and on popular demand.

 

Mary Ellen O’Dea, OP, is a Sinsinawa Dominican who is a lifelong student of the scriptures. She has ministered as a teacher, principal, director of family faith development, director of religious education, coordinator of small faith communities, a university chaplain, spirituality coordinator, itinerant preacher, and retreat director. 
  

 Martin Pable, PhD, OFM Cap, is a Capuchin priest-psychologist and spiritual director. He has extensive experience in counseling priests, religious and laity. He conducts retreats, workshops and programs around the US, and is presently living in Milwaukee. Fr. Pable is author of several books, including two for men, The Quest for the Male Soul and A Man and His God.  

 

Janet Payne   is a private consultant in human services planning and evaluation of services to parents/guardians. Her background includes working at the Racine County Juvenile Detention Center, Horizon Hall Girls Group Home, and the Racine County Human Services Department. Janet currently volunteers at the Racine Police Department and in SAFE Haven's Gang Crime Diversion Program. She served on the founding board of Racine Runaway, Inc., was co-founder of Parents Helpline and a founding member of the Racine Community Coalition for Youth. She is a Racine Dominican Associate.

 

Diane Poplawski, OP, is a Racine Dominican and the Executive Director of the National Coalition for Church Vocations in Chicago. She has an MA in pastoral studies, and completed spiritual guidance training in the program at Siena Center, Racine.  Diane resonates with Native American teachings and the prophet Micah=s invitation to "act justly, love tenderly, and walk humbly....

 

Ruthanne Reed, OP,  a Racine Dominican, has ministered as a parish pastoral associate, an itinerant missionary preacher and retreat director and a Montessori educator. She received her spiritual guidance preparation through the training program at Siena Center.  She co-facilitated the Basketry and Contemplation retreat at Siena for ten years and has witnessed emerging creativity in the art of basketry.

   

Gail Ross, MsEd, is a retired mental health therapist and formerly on the team of directors for the Spiritual Guidance Training Program at the Racine Dominican Retreat Program. Gail has completed course work for an MDiv at Loyola, Chicago, and has led retreats in Wisconsin and the Chicago area. 

 

Chuck Ruehle  is a member, organizer of Coming Together Racine, a local community based antiracism organizing effort.  He is also the retired former Executive Co-Director of Crossroads Anti-Racism Organizing and Training, continuing to serve as an organizer/trainer consultant. Since 1971 he has led workshops and produced anti-racism curriculum and resources.  Chuck,  a Lutheran Pastor, served an urban parish in Milwaukee from 1986 to 1995. He and his wife, Pastor Susan Ruehle, live in Racine.

 

Joyce Rupp describes herself as a "spiritual mid-wife," one who assists others in birthing an ever fuller and deeper faith life. She is the author of numerous best selling books. Besides writing, her ministry includes speaking at national and international retreats and conferences, spiritual direction, and co-directing The Institute of Compassionate Presence. Kay Shackelford   is a Racine Dominican Associate and holds  masters degrees in community counseling and social work.  She completed training in spiritual guidance at Siena Center.  Kay has worked in the field of domestic violence for over 20 years.  She is a widow with two grown sons and six grandchildren.

 

Pat Shutts, MA, is on the program staff at the Racine Dominican Retreat Program and completed spiritual guidance training at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. Her undergraduate work is in theology, and her MA is in pastoral studies. Pat has worked for 20 years in faith formation in schools and parishes, with training and experience in grief ministry. She is a Covenant member with the Wheaton Franciscans, and loves art, play and prayer. 

  

Liz Stout  , MA, MDiv, PDS, is an Interfaith Minister and spiritual director. She is a former editor of Presence: An International Journal of Spiritual Direction. Liz has been knitting since early on, when first allowed to handle sharp, pointed objects, alone. She prefers simple projects over nerve-wracking charts and counting.
 
 

Sharon Thyne is a psychotherapist who has specialized in trauma.  She received her spiritual guidance preparation through the training program at Siena Center and has facilitated both guided and directed retreats.  She is an active member in Adult Initiation Ministry (RCIA) in her parish.  Sharon is an Associate Member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi

 

Jacquelyn Titus is a spiritual guide, trained in the program at Siena Center. She is a meditation facilitator and a body-wisdom focusing guide. She offers the process of body-mind-spirit healing as a conduit of Divine Light and Love. She also offers individually guided day retreats at her country facility. A wife and mother, Jacquie formerly taught at the elementary school level, and resides in Jefferson, Wisconsin.

 

Lorrita Verhey, SSND, is a School Sister of Notre Dame.  As a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has served in Ghana, West Africa, and in outpatient clinics in the Chicago area, working with the poor, with immigrants, and with persons with chronic mental illness.  Lorrita completed spiritual guidance training at Siena Center and an internship with Claret Center in Chicago where she currently offers spiritual direction.  In the context of the evolving universe story, she offers a compassionate listening presence in the unfolding story of one’s search for meaning. “In life’s day-to-day events, we seek together ways to discover, integrate, and celebrate the presence of the Divine.”

 

Paul Voelkel, PhD, holds master’s degrees in philosophy and theology, and a PhD in psychology. He has been a practicing psychologist in the Milwaukee area for 40 years. Paul is a trained facilitator of Centering Prayer groups, and practices daily this form of meditation. He and Paula have been married for 35 years.

 

Paula Voelkel is a speaker, writer and retreat leader. Born and raised in Portugal, she worked as a lay missionary in Mozambique-Africa for two years, participating in the program, Movement for a Better World. She has lived with her German husband and multi-national daughter in the US for 35 years. Paula thinks of herself as a pilgrim in this world and has made pilgrimages to India, Bali, Brazil, Peru, and recently to Costa Rica where she attended the Conference of the Alliance for a New Humanity.

 

Clare Wagner, OP, MA, MTS, is a Sinsinawa Dominican with a background in literature and theology with a concentration in spirituality. She has ministered for many years as a spiritual guide, retreat leader and teacher. A focus of her interest and study is women’s spirituality; her passion is attention to the Earth and the needs of women around the globe. 

 

Lisa Wagner-Carollo founded Still Point Theatre Collective in 1993, a Chicago-based community of artists who combine ministry and theatre, and she remains the company’s director. In addition to performing Haunted by God, Lisa is currently touring the US and overseas with Deep Listening, a new production on death and dying.

 

Linda WieserOSF, a Franciscan sister, is a holistic body therapist, spiritual director and Certified Personal Life Coach, who focuses on the whole person, integrating the healing of body, mind, spirit and emotions. She holds an MA from Creighton University and has done extensive study in body therapy and spiritual direction.

  

Susan Winecki is an environmental chaplain whose primary purpose these days is writing and speaking on behalf of the natural world. She brings a spiritual perspective to her work which she feels is sadly missing in our relationship with nature. With a doctoral degree in ministry and a master’s degree in social welfare, she serves on the board of the Friends of Milwaukee’s Rivers and volunteers for the Schlitz Audubon Center and the Environmental Committee of the River Hills Village Board.    

 

Janice Zeller is a professor in the College of Nursing at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. She completed spiritual direction training and was a staff intern at the Institute of Spiritual Companionship. Jan has specialty training in mindfulness-based stress reduction and mind-body-spirit medicine. She has participated in retreat work and co-facilitated mind-body skills groups.
