Dominicans Host Peace Prayer

The Racine Dominicans invited the public to a “Prayer for Peace” on September 21, the day declared by the United Nations General Assembly as the International Day of Peace. The short service began in the motherhouse's Siena Center Chapel and progressed to the center’s peace pole outside. A large peace dove banner led the procession.

“This is a day devoted to commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among people and nations,” S. Peg Gabik, planner of the prayer service said. “We hope people join us in focusing their energy and prayer toward the dire need for peace in today’s world.”

“There’s something special about praying together,” peace advocate S. Alice Rademacher noted. “It’s inspiring to be with people standing up for peace and justice, people who firmly believe a better world is possible, and we can make it happen.”

The International Day of Peace has been celebrated on September 21 since the UN General Assembly initiated it in 1982. Prayer services and peace events are held throughout the world on this day.
