S. Jean (Philip Marie) Ackerman Celebrating 60 Years
What first drew you to the Racine Dominican community?
The Dominican women who taught me in grade school and two outstanding music teachers during my grade and high school years drew me to the Racine Dominican community.
What has kept you in the community all these years?
As an “itinerant preacher,” I continue to treasure our Racine Dominican focus: “committed to truth and compelled to justice.”
What was one particularly cherished memory of your years in ministry?
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a cherished memory in several parish communities as adults shared their profound faith journeys with one another.
What is one thing people today should know about the Racine Dominicans?
That the Word of God, which roots us deeply both in communal prayer and in contemplative personal prayer, connects us with our global sisters and brothers every day of our lives.
What do you enjoy doing at this time of your life?
At this time of my life, I appreciate the balance of prayer and ministry; of reading and music; of growing in wisdom and grace within my Dominican community.
