Sister Jeanne (Mary de Montfort) Burg

What first drew you to the Racine Dominican community?
From second grade, I knew I was going to be a sister. I had Mound Dominicans as teachers at St. Rose in Milwaukee. Friends of my grandparents had an aunt in Racine, so they brought me to S. Mary de Sales, and here I am!
What has kept you in the community all these years?
Simplicity. Dedication to education and unmet social needs. Openness to the challenge called for by Vatican II and study of its documents.
What is one particularly cherished memory of your years in ministry?
My 25th jubilee. I received money from the parish and asked the community if I could use it to invite some sisters to go to California with me to work with César Chavez for eight weeks.
What is one thing people today should know about the Racine Dominicans?
We are dedicated to responding to unmet social needs.
What do you enjoy doing at this time of your life?
More time for silence, prayer and reading. Responding to the needs of others through volunteering whenever I can.
